Is used to convert PDF documents to Word (.doc)/WordPad (.rtf) documents, HTML web pages, JPG/PNG/BMP/TIF/GIF/PCX/TGA images and plain text files in batch mode. It works without Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader, and has friendly interface, small size, accurate and fast conversion ability. It retains the original text, images, format and layout of PDF documents in various output files as much as possible. Also, PDF to X supports converting the password-protected PDF files and specifying page range to convert (for DOC, RTF, JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIF, PCX, TGA files), and supports converting the PDF files that have some restrictions, such as Content Copying, Saving as Text, Page Extraction, Printing are not allowed (for HTML and TXT files). If you want to edit/reedit the PDF files in MS Word or WordPad, publish the PDF content as HTML web pages on the web, capture PDF documents, let your documents management system supports PDF search or want to extract the text from PDF files, it might be useful.

You May Like. 1 out of 5 I was hopeful, but nope!
I tried multiple PDF’s, as I have a project that needs to have a PDF updated that is years old. While the program ‘indicated’ that it was processing to the.DOC format, absolutely nothing was outputted, and when I tried a.RTF, it repeatedly only produced the last page. And to make matters worse, the output was not even editable, everything became a.JPG, although individual.JPG’s for every paragraph. Yes, the interface was rather clean, but the result was extremely disappointing. 4 out of 5 PDF is the most common format used for documents in all sorts of work environments, for example schools and offices.
However, PDF format is not editable, and users have to convert it to other formats to be able to edit it for many different purposes. There are many conversion tools out there, but most of them produce output in which all PDF formatting is lost. PDF TO X is a software application designed to convert PDF files to into DOC, HTML, JPG and text files, as well as other formats, namely RTF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIF, PCX and TGA.
This application comes with the ability to convert multiple files in batch mode. Overview The installer size is only 3MB and the installation process is simple and takes only a minute before you can start using the application. The main window shows 4 options that are available in this application, you can choose your desired one, add files and convert them to the format you want to. Pros Clean UI & Easy-to-use The setup procedure is simple and straightforward, no user should have a hard time doing that. The UI of this application is user-friendly, without any fancy stuff.
It wouldn’t be wrong to call it a to-the-point main UI, as it only shows 4 buttons, namely ‘PDF to DOC’, ‘PDF to JPG’, ‘PDF to TEXT’, and ‘PDF to HTML’. Clicking these buttons results in a new application being launched, there you can add files, tweak with output settings, and convert your PDF files to your desired format. This application does not feature any advanced options or complex configurations, this makes it suitable and easy-to-use for all types of users. Conversion options This tool supports batch processing, this means you can add as many PDF files to it as you want and process them to different format at the same time. All the files you add are listed, and information like name, file size, and number of pages are shown. Moreover, you can specify a page range, pick the output format and change output folder. When you are done converting one batch, you can easily clear the queue so that you can start fresh, without having the need to restart the application.
Wide-range of conversions This tool supports PDF conversion to Word (.doc)/WordPad (.rtf) documents, HTML web pages, JPG/PNG/BMP/TIF/GIF/PCX/TGA images and plain text formats. This tool has the ability to convert even password protected PDF files, and you can choose a specific page range to be converted.
Cons Unable to track progress As there is no progress bar shown during the conversion process, it can be very annoying for those who try to convert large size files. Users should be able to see the and keep track of the conversion process. Original formatting lost The developers claim that this tool retains original text, images, format and layout in output files. However, it works with only few formats and few input files, many of my output files did not have the original formatting.
Conclusion PDF TO X is a reliable conversion tool, with great conversion options and possibilities. It works flawlessly and does not hog a lot of system resources. Addition of a progress bar, and improving the conversion process so that the original formatting is not lost, would make this tool a great choice when it comes to PDF conversion tools. 3 out of 5 As a test, I converted a PDF I recently downloaded that’s an instruction manual for a multimeter. The text layout is reasonably straightforward and there are (as you’d expect) a few embedded graphics. The source file is under 500k.
Word conversion just fails, for me. I suspect it requires Word (as opposed to another editor that can read and write Word format files) to be installed. It produced an uninformative error message rather than any output. (The error message is just “error occurred” but the program itself still produces a dialog offering to open the output file — which, naturally, doesn’t have any effect.) RTF worked, but produced almost 16Mb of output. (This would have been as a result of expanding embedded graphics to bitmaps and then encoding them directly as text, which is never very economical.) I can’t tell whether it’s the limitations of RTF or PDF to X that causes the graphics handling (in the sense of text wrapping and the like) to be so poor, but the final output in that respect was very disappointing. Ignoring the pure image outputs (because chances are, you’re converting the file in order to edit the text) html output was the most successful at preserving the original layout. It was still uneconomical but total output was under 2Mb, which is a significant improvement over rtf.
Text also worked but about as badly as you’d expect: all the text, little of the layout and none of the graphics. It’s a reasonably well-presented and easy to use bit of software but it’s let down by its inability to create Word and RTF documents reliably or (sometimes) at all. 4 out of 5 For a number of reasons, you could have had the need to convert a PDF file into other file types like DOC or JPG. To get a software package to help you do so, could be a challenge given the crowded space of file converters. You can as well settle on PDF to X given its features and what it has to offer. Here is my take on the software. At a Glance After few minutes of downloading and installing PDF to X, you will be welcomed by a rather functional interface.
Right off the bat, you will know what each option does. Based on that, you will not have any problem hitting the ground running. Pros Smaller Converted Files After converting several PDF files that had a number of pages with pictures, I noted their corresponding DOC files were of smaller sizes.
Such small files could be advantageous in a number of situations especially if you are running out of small on your storage space. Effective Conversions The concept of converting PDF files to editable word documents isn’t a new concept so do applications that can help you do so. In my experience using such tools, not all of them lived up to my expectations.
Having said so, one of the most impressive thing that stood out for me with PDF to X was its effectiveness in converting PDFs to DOC files while retaining all the formatting of initial content. Sizable Number of Conversion Options PDF to X clearly focuses on converting PDFs into other file types. True to that, you can use the software to convert PDF files to DOC or RTF documents, HTML, JPG, or Text. In the PDF to JPG option, you will also get additional options regarding the image type of the output file. That is, you could convert it to JPG, GIF, PNG, TGA, PCX, BMP, and TIF.
Cons Less Developed PDF to DOC Option PDF to X provides an easy way to convert PDF files to word documents. It has the PDF to DOC option to do so. However, when I was using this option, I noted it was limited to converting PDFs to only DOC and RTF files.
It lacks the option for the DOCX file format. Long Conversion Period When converting PDF files that were several MBs big, I had to contend with rather conversion periods than I had expected. If you use the latest version of MS Word, you could open the same files and convert them to DOCX files within a lesser wait time. Being a converter, it could have performed better. Less Intuitive What sets good software packages from the rest is the user experience they guarantee.
As I was using PDF to X in converting 10 MB PDFs, I was always left in the dark regarding the conversion process. After hitting the Convert All button, all that I saw was a less intuitive notification that the conversion was in progress.
As a result, I couldn’t tell how long the process was going to take. Verdict PDF to X focuses on reliable conversions and delivers the same. Conversions that would really deliver nice experiences are those involving smaller PDF files as large files will keep you in the dark as you wait for the process to complete without any progress bar.
5 out of 5 If you are interested in converting your PDF documents to other popular formats like DOC, HTML or other popular document types, you must by now realize how hard it is to do so and still keep the PDF formatting. This is especially the problem when dealing with highly graphic PDF documents. PDF to X is one such tool and I’m going to try my hand on it with specific attention on speed, target file options and most importantly its ability to hold face and styling. At a Glance PDF to X focuses on the conversions. You won’t get any extra fancy settings to confuse or derail you from the job at hand.
This, in my opinion, contributes to making it ultra light and convenient to precise users who are just interested in a conversion. Pros Some Flexibility on Target Options While most people think of the popular.docx and.doc when thinking word documents, the fact that you can still have RTF on WordPad document calls for extra flexibility, something I found neatly covered by PDF to X when I clicked the convert button. This means that you won’t bind the document viewership to MS Office owners but also allow people to use WordPad to view the product. Reliable Quality Conversion This is what I was most interested in when installing PDF to X. I ran it through a couple of PDF documents with complex tables and page styling options and everything came out just fine. The layout were as they appeared on the source with every dimension difference compensated for perfectly. The next test was on a bulky magazine PDF full of images, color variations and different fonts.
Even though all the conversions to JPG are spot on, I had some image quality drops on the DOC and HTML formats. I really didn’t get all the gloss and quality I had on the source PDF.
Cons No Progress Bar There is no progress bar to tell you how much longer you have to wait for the product. While this won’t be a problem on small files since it is considerably snappy, you will really be lost when handling long PDF files that need a minute or so to render. Struggles with Big Files You will have a not responding message and occasional glitches when loading really big files. Try converting a whole magazine, or a bulky 30 page design and you will get what I mean. Good thing is PDF to X recovered on all occasions and delivered just fine. Verdict PDF to X is an excellent tool for small to mid range conversions.
You might have to remove any passwords from your PDFs or split bigger copies but I was really impressed with its renders and the way it maintains the formatting when porting to DOC and HTML.
